Cut the cord: How to watch TV online without cable
Are you thinking about cutting the cord? Has your cable bill risen to a point that you just can't shell out another dollar for your service?
Cable TV can be a big chunk of your monthly budget, Americans spent an average of $103 a month — $1,236 a year — on cable television in 2016, according to The Washington Post.
Over the past five years, nearly 8 million U.S. households have cut cable, according to Wall Street research firm MoffettNathanson.
Quitting cable can be a confusing process — streaming services, broadband internet, streaming devices, HDTV antennas — choices, choices, choices. Consider the movies and TV shows you want to watch, such as HBO's "Game of Thrones," Netflix's "House of Cards," Amazon's "Man in the High Castle," Hulu's "Casual," and CBS All-Access' "Star Trek: Discovery." Live sports are not available on some streaming services but options include ESPN on Hulu Live, PlayStation Vue, Sling TV, DirecTV Now and YouTube TV.
Without a smart TV you will need a streaming device such as: Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Google Chromecast, Sony PlayStation and Microsoft XBox One. Many streaming services can also be viewed on smartphone and tablet apps.
The video above will walk you through the process, step by step, and show you price comparisons.
